The port of Livorno is located in the centre of Italy's hilly region of Tuscany. You will need a taxi to see the town or a shore excursion to visit Pisa, to see the 11th century Duomo cathedral and world-famous Leaning Tower, or legendary Florence, Renaissance city of the Medici grand dukes. Also nearby is Lucca, encircled by a 16th-century wall. Livorno developed as a trading port during the 15th century and reflected the decline of Pisa as a result of the silting up of the River Arno. Pisa is 12 miles inland of Livorno and Florence 62 miles. Both are on the banks of the Arno.
